Hypnotherapy for sleep

Sleep Better

Not getting enough sleep can impair decision-making and memory, and it can lead to health problems. Hypnosis may improve the amount of deep sleep you get by as much as 80%. Deep sleep helps you wake up feeling refreshed each day.

A 2010 study found that hypnosis was effective for inducing and increasing slow-wave REM sleep. In the study, subjects who listened to short sleep hypnosis tape prior to taking a nap achieved 80 percent more slow-wave sleep.

A 2008 randomised trial found that smokers who underwent hypnosis were more likely to quit and stay quit than those who received counselling and nicotine replacement therapy. A study in 1994 found that 80% of participants who underwent hypnosis and aversion therapy abstained from smoking after 6 months.

A 1986 study examined how well group hypnosis worked for weight loss. The group that underwent hypnosis lost 8 kilograms, while the non-hypnotised group lost .2 kilograms.

Making healthier food choices and exercising are key components for weight loss, but in some cases, successful weight loss also requires getting rid of the emotional and subconscious factors that prevent us from losing weight or contribute to us putting weight on. The use of hypnosis for weight loss requires a different approach than when used for other conditions—it usually takes several sessions rather than just one to determine the individual’s personal triggers. Hypnosis has been shown in studies to be an effective treatment for IBS. Hypnotherapy uses relaxation techniques followed by hypnotic suggestions to help patients learn to control their symptoms. The results of the studies showed that patients experienced improvement in their quality of life and in the common symptoms of abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, and bloating.

In one study, people reported that IBS symptoms including constipation, diarrhoea, gas and bloating improved after three months of hypnotherapy and this improvement lasted for at least nine months. A 2015 study found that 76% of refractory irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) Patients reported a decrease in the severity of IBS symptoms after three months of hypnotherapy.

Stress is detrimental to fertility because it can delay the release of eggs and prevent the implantation of fertilised eggs, and the ‘flight or fight’ response channels blood away from the reproductive organs. It also has a negative effect on hormones: boosting levels of fertility-inhibiting prolactin and reducing levels of progesterone, which is essential for building and maintaining the uterine lining.

Research has shown that hypnotherapy is a very effective aid not only to natural conception but also when used in conjunction with IVF. An Israeli study of 185 women showed that the success rate of IVF treatments doubled from 14% to 28% when the subjects underwent hypnosis during implantation.
